DIA Annual Meeting to Address Future Innovation and Integrated Approach to Advance the Development of Health Care Products

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sessions at the DIA 2015 51st Annual Meeting will bring together individuals across all disciplines in the discovery, development, and life cycle management of health care products with a goal of fostering innovation that will lead to the development of safe and effective medical products and therapies. The Annual Meeting will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from June 14 to 18. This year’s program co-chairs are Michael Rosenblatt, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Merck & Co., Inc. and Christopher P. Austin, MD, Director, National Center for Advancing Translational Science, National Institutes of Health.

The meeting includes more than 245 educational offerings over 20 tracks on today’s hottest topics surrounding 21st Century Cures, health care applications of cloud computing and disruptive technologies, patient engagement, repurposing of drugs, and social media strategies. For the second year, DIA also will host The Walking Gallery, a patient empowerment movement founded by artist Regina Holliday (June 15, 4-6pm).

    June 16, 3:30 – 5:00 PM
    Looking at how flexible, innovative mobile and digital technology can provide support throughout the product life cycle (from clinical research to real-world environments).Will describe past and future patient recruitment strategies, determining how the findings can be applied to provide the best participant experience when designing patient support programs. Speakers will review technology-based patient engagement strategies, including barriers and recommendations for optimal implementation.
  • The Development of Patient Power: From Consumer to Active Participant! (Session #201)
    June 16, 8:00 – 9:30 AM
    Collecting views and data directly from patients may provide information that is critical to understanding how medicines are used. The role of patients is changing from being an uninvolved consumer to playing a key role in the drug development process.
  • Regulation of Combination Products in the 21stCentury (Session #247)
    June 16, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
    This forum will focus on the regulatory challenges facing combination product development and pending U.S. legislative proposals to address them. Panelists will explore the influence of combination products on global regulatory policy.
  • Office of Pharmaceutical Quality Update (Session #239)
    June 16, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
    This forum will discuss how the new structure of the Office of Pharmaceutical Quality further enhances CDER’s Good Manufacturing Processes for the 21stCentury Initiative by creating an integrated drug quality program.
  • 21st Century Cures: Which Are the Most Transformative Provisions and How Do They Accomplish Major Change? (Session #312)
    June 17, 8:00 – 9:30 AM
    Hear directly from representatives from FDA, House Energy and Commerce Committee and others about the legislation’s goal to reform FDA regulatory processes in order to accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of promising new treatments. Learn from the panelists how they envision the legislation will transform health care product development.
