Klick Health: Traditional Healthcare Agencies Becoming Extinct

,
Klick Health execs say technology is key to strategic and creative brand building, keeping up with clients, remaining relevant – and in business

TORONTO, ON/NEW YORK, NY – June 15, 2016 – Two top Klick Health executives have likened traditional healthcare agencies to endangered species on their way to becoming extinct. Their comments were released today in response to the recent interview published in FiercePharma about the disruption required in the healthcare marketing industry.

“The traditional agency model is doomed; it’s just not sustainable,” said Doug Burcin, Klick’s Chief Growth Officer. “Most agencies have been building brands using the same old methods forever. They’re resting solely on their big-idea laurels and aren’t integrating advanced technology, data and analytics. They’ve become irrelevant and are part of a dying breed.”

Klick President Lori Grant echoed Burcin’s call for change, saying it’s long overdue. “The industry has made very little progress over the last 20 years to improve the client experience. Tinkering with surface-level changes and pledging better collaboration, integration, and unification doesn’t cut it anymore,” she said. “It’s time to step up and start managing brands in real time.”

According to Ares Allergy Holdings CEO Rick Russell, “Healthcare is being reshaped by the needs of the patient and the redefinition of value by the payer. And while many agencies are making incremental changes, to be successful, they need to rethink the market’s needs and keep up with the pace of business.”

Burcin said he and a number of other top talent joined the technology-rooted independent agency and innovation hub because of Klick’s anti-establishment agency approach, evolving creative team, fearless culture, and growing treasure-trove of proprietary data-rich platforms. He previously spent 18 years at Havas Health, the last eight as its Global CEO.

“Klick is introducing new ways of creatively, strategically, and innovatively building brands with on-demand technology, dynamic media and automation platforms, and advanced data and analytics capabilities,” Burcin explained. “We’re talking about being able to deliver faster, more efficient, and better ways of creating measurable results for clients. The difference is like night and day.”

Industry in need of change
Reception to Klick’s evolving Agency-of-the-Future model has been tremendous, he added. “Clients are validating that the traditional agency model is broken. They’re hungry for a model that provides innovation to help build their businesses. We are currently in discussions with several key clients who want to work with us and become the Client of the Future.”

In the FiercePharma article, Ron Cohen, CEO of Acorda Therapeutics said, “Klick has mastered advanced digital platforms and tools, the special needs of the healthcare industry, and the essentials of communication. Better yet, we’ve found that they are not only comfortable with, but actively foster, collaboration with our own internal digital and creative teams, combining the best of both.”

Klick has been investing in the development and evolution of a technology stack to facilitate the orchestration of biopharma’s critical commercial activities and integrate all of the touch points, data, and workstreams of omni-channel marketing, CRM, and regulatory compliance programs across the enterprise.

Designed to collaborate with clients of any scale and integrate with existing technology investments plus a variety of data vendors and market-leading platforms, Klick’s technology stack will help accelerate project delivery and lower the cost of change while improving quality and regulatory compliance.

Klick Labs, the company’s innovation hub, has also been experimenting with promising technologies, such as IBM Watson, and is constantly enhancing its ecosystem with new capabilities and channels, including artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality.
