On your Merck/Vioxx® legal fees story:
The judge, in New Orleans federal District Court, actually ordered a total of $1.55 billion to be paid out to the various lawyers. Individual splits (by specific firms and lawyers) are still pending before Judge Fallon.
This is an extraordinary amount of legal fees, but so too, is the $4.85 billion in recoveries acheived, on the over 105 million Vioxx prescriptions written during the period the drug was available in the US markets.
To be fair, thhough, the average hourly billing rate on the case was a little over $440 an hour.

Hi Ed -
I have to say I did prefer your old email style. The new style comes in with very small point size.
Just thought you'd like to know.
Thanks, Karl
