The Charles River Research Model Service is probably not well known but this is where researchers obtain animal models of human disease to test out investigational new drugs fresh out of the lab. CR has been breeding these models since I was in school. The consolidation of this business with the preclinical is a clear signal to me that drug companies today are less willing to invest in drug discovery. This may well have a trickle up effect to the rest of preclinical and clinical research.
