Pharmalot... Pharmalittle... Reflections

In observance of ancient traditions, we will take a break over the next two days, and return next week. We recognize that the world will continue spinning in our absence, but assure you that we will be back soon enough to resume the daily dose of news, views and chatter that turns you on. Until then, we wish you the best.

The usual 2 year expiration date on medications is based on a mathematical projections of when the product will fall below a certain potency limit. Most drugs don't reach that limit by 2 years, hence it is safe to take these drugs for some period of time after 2 years as long as they are stored properly. The easiest way to make your drug expire before its time is to store it in the bathroom, where humidity will cause accelerated degradation.

oii: Was your comment above meant for a different post? Or was this "a new years resolution' of sorts?

Sep 29, 2011 - 9:10am

Searching, my comment was in response to the article re risky prescription practices. But since you ask, my New Years resolution is to be kinder, gentler and less acerbic with my comments, which will remain in effect as long as there are no dimwitted posters to get my bile flowing.

I accept my role as a foil for the anti- pharmaceutical industry crowd that populates these boards. That's the great thing about free speech. I more or less see myself playing the bad guy role that Jack Nicholson played (Col. Jessup) in the movie "A Few Good Men". I most identify with Jessup's line from the movie during the courtroom scene when he is being drilled by the defense attorney played by Tom Cruise.

"...And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall...".

Happy New Near to all.

It is unfortunate that you have the type of life that drives you to such comments ....

"I eat breakfast 300 yards from 4000 [hostile soldiers] who are trained to kill me"

Oh, wait, he is just a metaphor not a reality ...

Searching, ifsq you synonymize evil with grotesque and incomprehensible then you understand my position when I quote from a recent Pharma Hater:

Big Pharma: Destroys lives, health and happiness of countless innocent people with its toxic pharmaceutical junk "Corrupts the workers, the health professionals, the politicians, the lawyers et al who are tempted to abandon proper standards of ethics, morality, truth and decency by the lure of tainted money Denudes national economies of cash, workers and resources producing and being paid vast sums for its toxic pharmaceutical junk Pollutes the atmosphere and water courses with the effluent from its vile manufacturies Is the greatest evil of the modern world."

Searching, I don't know how you parse that any other way. My strategy comes from another movie, "The Godfather, quote Vito Corleone: "keep your friends close and your enemies closer".

" I more or less see myself playing the bad guy role that Jack Nicholson played."

What's insufferable is the self-absorption, not the viewpoints.

Happy New Year Ed!

oii My favorite line from the scene was when Nicholson snarled "you'r damn right I did!...Just before being hauled off to jail and out of circulation....
