A new wave of mobile apps that help track exposure to the coronavirus is coming to U.S. states ahead of the holidays as public health officials bet that recently introduced features from Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google will significantly boost adoption and impact.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Jeff Bezos’ Day One Fund teamed up to donate $15 million to the Diagnostics Accelerator as part of the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation.

Privately held Pear Therapeutics said the company raised $64 million from investors, including Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, weeks after launching a mobile app for treating patients with substance use disorder.

The FDA cleared Pear Therapeutics’ app to help increase retention of patients undergoing outpatient treatment for opioid abuse.
