A lawyer for the European Union accused AstraZeneca on May 26 of failing to respect the company’s contract with the 27-nation bloc for the supply of Covid-19 vaccines and asked a Belgian court to impose a large fine on the Anglo-Swedish drug firm.

Britain on March 22 demanded the European Union allow the delivery of Covid-19 vaccines the country has ordered as tensions over a possible export ban on EU-manufactured shots mounted and Brussels pointed an accusing finger at drugmaker AstraZeneca.

Pfizer slashed in half the volume of Covid-19 vaccines the company will deliver to some EU countries this week, government officials said, as frustration over the U.S. drugmaker’s unexpected cut in supplies grows.
