Novartis announced positive news for patients with metastatic breast cancer. New data showed Kisqali (ribociclib), in combination with the chemotherapy drug fulvestrant, added nearly 16 months of survival benefit to the lives of patients compared to fulvestrant alone.

In a Phase III study, Eli Lilly’s Verzenio (abemaciclib) combined with standard adjuvant endocrine therapy met the trial’s primary endpoint of invasive disease-free survival in high-risk breast cancer and significantly reduced the risk of a recurrence of the disease.

New data from Novartis’ breast cancer drug Kisqali underscored its effectiveness in pre-menopausal women, the Swiss drugmaker said, amid efforts to muscle in on turf dominated by rival Pfizer’s Ibrance.
