COUCH Health Marks World Pulmonary Hypertension Day with Awareness Campaign

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, May 5, 2021 — To mark World Pulmonary Hypertension Day, COUCH Health, a patient engagement agency, has launched a new disease awareness campaign to shine a spotlight on Pulmonary Hypertension and those affected by this often misdiagnosed condition.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH), or high blood pressure in the lungs, is a life-threatening disease that affects more than 75 million people globally. Raising awareness of PH is urgent, because while the disease can be managed with proper care and treatment, if left untreated, it can damage the heart.

Sharing patient-led stories is powerful, not only for raising awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension and other conditions, but also to support other sufferers and highlight the truth that no one needs to face this disease alone,” said CEO, Ash Rishi. Senior Partnerships Manager, Natasha Welford added, “Patients understand their disease better than the medical professionals, and this campaign is also a reminder that patient perspectives must always be put at the forefront of any research or medical intervention.

Three video stories, representing anger, fear and panic, were co-created with the PH community and are based on experiences and testimony from those affected by PH.

I felt very emotional watching the videos, particularly recalling my feelings of anger and despair when I was first diagnosed,” said Marcie McGregor, who has PH. “I probably experienced almost all of the fears and anxieties that were articulated in the videos, but it was those feelings of raw anger that resonated with me the most.

PH will be one of the focus areas featured in COUCH Health’s new online health community, Health Quarter, which launches this summer. On the Health Quarter website, patients, carers and family members can access high-quality health information, share their experiences and connect to relevant clinical research initiatives.
