The global full-service agency Evoke is purpose-built to navigate today’s complex healthcare landscape, according to the management team. “Born from digital roots over a decade ago, Evoke has evolved into one of the leading marketing, media and communications groups in the industry today, partnering with many of the world’s largest and most high-profile health and wellness brands,” Evoke executives say. “With locations in New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Princeton, London, Los Angeles, Chicago, Singapore, and Dubai, Evoke’s more than 550 professionals are bound by the common purpose: Health More Human.”

Recent accomplishments

According to agency leaders, from unveiling a new simplified global agency brand, to integrating a number of high-profile strategic acquisitions, numerous large-scale global account wins, and welcoming some of the brightest talent in the industry, 2018 was a transformational year for Evoke – culminating in the creation of one of the most differentiated, purpose-built agency groups in the healthcare market today.
“This banner year was first marked by the launch of a singular, fully integrated global agency brand, comprising the collective talent, expertise and legacy of group agencies Firsthand, Fabric, Traverse Health Strategy, nitrogen health, Tonic, and Evoke Health,” management says. “Fueled by its digital DNA and data-driven mindset, Evoke organized its offering around six core areas: professional marketing, consumer and patient marketing, market access, PR and influence, media, and consulting – under one unified brand and single P&L.”
“Everything about the market is more complex today – the science, commercialization, contracting and selling relationships, the influence of technology,” says Evoke CEO and Founder Reid Connolly. “Not every agency is prepared to guide clients through these challenges. We wanted to create a simple way to meet clients’ needs – and better understand their challenges. We structured Evoke to effectively provide the expertise, scale of resources, and breadth of geographic reach needed to help our clients navigate today’s complex market.”
Building from this unified agency platform, Evoke leaders integrated a series of strategic acquisitions throughout 2018. “Starting with the addition of advanced media and adtech agency, AboveNation Media, which added one of the most technologically advanced and fundamentally transparent media strategy, planning, and buying groups in the space today,” management says.
“Marrying our expertise with Evoke’s existing prowess makes us an unstoppable force,” says Steve Minichini, President, Media. “Particularly within pharma, there’s an untapped potential with this type of integrated offering that we’re confident clients will be awed by.”
In July, Evoke acquired Giant Creative Strategy, the largest healthcare agency on the West Coast, expanding geographic reach and diversifying clients. With a heritage in healthcare professional marketing and a reputation as one of the most progressive multichannel marketing agencies, Giant (now Evoke Giant) was a natural fit for the organization.
“Evoke has built one of the most formidable agency groups in the healthcare sector,” says Evoke Giant CEO Steven Gold. “Combined with our own portfolio, we’re an impressive force to be reckoned with in the space. I could not be happier to grow our business both in the U.S. and globally and provide our clients with new, expanded offerings.”
In the fall, Evoke added to its high-growth market access and payer marketing offering with the acquisition of Navience Healthcare Solutions (now Evoke Navience). Led by Principal John Shamsey, a client-side veteran, management says Evoke Navience helps clients find their way through the complex and ever-changing market access landscape with a customer-centric approach backed by powerful analytics.
“Evoke has truly been established as one of the few agencies of scale that clients can turn to with their toughest challenges, regardless of audience, channel, or geography, and we’re looking forward to working to help solve those problems together,” Shamsey says.
According to the leadership team, Evoke’s unique partnership model and comprehensive offering has already begun to benefit a number of existing clients and brought exciting new account wins across the group. “It’s also no secret that Evoke has attracted some of the industry’s top talent with key new hires both in the U.S. and abroad, with no signs of slowing having won ‘Best Place to Work’ for the fourth year in a row,” agency executives say. In addition to those mentioned above, the expanded executive leadership team includes Chief Operating Officer Heather Torak; President, North America, Tom Donnelly; President, Europe, Jon Clark; President, PR, Maryellen Royle; President, Evoke Giant, Adam Gelling; Chief Creative Officer Collette Douaihy; and Chief Strategy Officer Michael Cole.

STRUCTURE AND SERVICES

Structured under one P&L, agency leaders say Evoke is able to provide full-service healthcare marketing, communications, and media capabilities with seamless strategic connectivity across audiences and regions, with increased agility and efficiency across the agency. Bound by the common purpose to make “Health More Human,” Evoke leverages collective talent and expertise across six core focus areas: professional marketing, consumer and patient marketing, market access, PR & influence, media, and consulting. “Whether providing strategic planning, multi-channel engagement, scientific or data strategy across audiences or regions, Evoke is dedicated to helping build stronger connections and more valuable relationships that drive results,” management says.
“Creative curiosity, data-driven mindset, digital DNA, and a full-service offering puts Evoke in a unique position in the market with a unique partnership model – partnering with many of the world’s leading health and wellness clients to develop durable businesses, create indelible brands in highly competitive marketplaces, and develop markets for sustainable growth,” agency executives say.

FUTURE PLANS

Healthcare as an industry is in a state of constant upheaval, fueled by changes in health policy, advances in technology, the explosion of communication channel options, and rising customer expectations that have transformed the reality of brand engagement. “In today’s market, it’s no longer enough to compete on products and services,” Evoke executives say. “Brands need to create seamless, relevant, connected experiences to create durable customer relationships.”
Over the next five years, Evoke leaders expect the bar to keep rising, driven by brands that apply innovation with a clear understanding of its customers’ needs to create increasingly personalized omnichannel engagements. “Constantly evolving to meet the challenges that lay ahead is part of Evoke’s DNA,” management says. “That’s how the agency has gone from being a digital health agency in 2006 to unseating many of the largest and most entrenched agencies and holding companies in the world. Now, as one cohesive team, Evoke delivers effectively across all channels, audiences, and geographies, and as an agency plans to stay at the cutting edge of the industry’s expectations and driving the line forward.”

PHILANTHROPY/CITIZENSHIP

According to agency leaders, corporate social and environmental responsibility is an integral part of Evoke, which encourages everyone to give back to their community.
“Every year, a group of passionate ambassadors in each office organizes philanthropic initiatives, including city-specific service days and clean-up projects, as well as fundraisers/drives, which often encourage friendly competition between offices,” Evoke leadership says.
For example, as part of the inter-office “Mo-vember” competition, each office sponsors participants in a month-long awareness challenge to raise funds for a number of health causes. In addition to fundraising, a team out of the San Francisco office worked with The Gubbio Project, which provides daily provisions and safe accommodation for the unhoused, to update their logo identity, color palette, and core promotional materials. Organizations supported in 2018 include the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, SF Fire Fighters Toy Drive, Heifer International, Red Nose Campaign, NY Cares, and Operation Gratitude. medadnews
