Patients affiliated with physicians in Humana MA value-based agreements had more favorable outcomes in all Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) Star measures in 2017, according to Humana’s “The intersection of health + care” value-based care report. Patients affiliated with value-based physicians underwent 11 percent more colorectal cancer screenings and 10 percent more breast cancer screenings than patients affiliated with fee-for-service physicians. Patients affiliated with value-based physicians also experienced 7 percent less emergency room visits and 5 percent less hospital admissions. Also, physicians who were in a Humana value-based agreement for all of 2014-2017 had an average HEDIS score of 4.21, compared with an average score of 3.58 for physicians who spent all four years in a fee-for-service agreement.
