JANUARY 17th IS “DITCH YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS DAY” –

AVOID THE DITCH WITH STICK MOBILE APP

App from GSW Combines Health, Tech and Behavioral Insights
to Help Users Stick to Resolutions

COLUMBUS, OH – January 14, 2016 – GSW, one of the largest health and wellness advertising agencies in the world and an inVentiv Health company, has unveiled a new, free mobile app designed to help users “stick” to their New Year’s resolutions once and for all. As January 17th is national “Ditch Your New Year’s Resolution Day,” the agency is aiming to help users understand key factors in keeping their resolutions to increase success rates.

Only eight percent of people actually stick to their New Year’s resolutions. To accelerate success, the Stick app combines the best of information tracking tools, fantasy team competitions, peer support systems and psychology insights to keep users engaged and accountable. Users can track personal resolution goals and receive automatic reminders along the way as they participate in and support communities designed to encourage behavior change.

“The Stick app bridges modern thinking with modern tools to help achieve behavior change,” said GSW Executive Creative Director, Dave Sonderman. “Current behavior modification research has demonstrated that being clear and simple with new goals, and sharing these goals with others, is critical to successfully keeping new resolutions. The kinds of resolutions we want to achieve most thrive when backed by peer support.”

Stick is powered by psychology research. Users can increase the stickiness factor of their resolutions through three simple steps:

  • Make it a habit. Users are urged to think about and evaluate daily routines to see where they can change one small habit to make a bigger difference. Stick helps users make resolutions with wisdom – for instance, understanding that it’s harder to stop an old behavior than it is to start a new one. Mobile encouragement and reminders become automated based on weekly frequency of the resolution.
  • Prepare for failure. Stick acknowledges human imperfection and is built to register users’ slip-ups as well as encourage them through these moments toward success.
  • Stick with one another. Stick users can choose to share their resolution with friends through Facebook and create friendly team competitions. User resolutions are tracked on a weekly point system and shared via in-app leaderboards. For example, users will score extra points for dropping a bad behavior because psychology reveals that breaking an existing habit is harder than starting a new one.

“We’ve harnessed psychological guidance about how to make and actually stick to resolutions to help others succeed,” said Sonderman. “GSW has been passionate about translating health and wellness insights into action for more than 30 years. We call it Speaking People. Stick is a fun way to apply technology and wisdom into a tool that helps anyone who’s looking to shape their habits to achieve personal goals.”

The app is available for free on iOS via the Apple App Store.
