According to agency leaders, LevLane asks every new life sciences client this burning question: “Who Loves Ya?”

“Why is love so vital to our marketing conversation? Because through decades of successful engagements, LevLane has proven that when you give people that compelling reason to become active participants in your brand, they feel the love and put their money where their heart is,” executives say.

When LevLane first formalized the agency’s long healthcare experience into a dedicated life sciences division, “the love came with it,” agency leaders say.

“But that was only the beginning. What we offer clients also breaks new ground for structure, intellectual stature, responsiveness and ROI vigor,” executives note.

Management attributes much of the credit for this achievement to Timmy Garde, the agency’s chief innovation leader, Life Sciences, who has more than 30 years of industry experience and “immediate access to a brain trust of senior-level thinkers and doers, a SWAT team whose total mastery of all key disciplines runs the length and breadth of the Life Sciences spectrum – pharma to biotech, diagnostics to medical devices, health systems to health and wellness.

“We crack the code on linking your brand and all of its constituents,” agency leaders say. “We then apply that thinking throughout the industry eco-system – provider, patient, payer, et al – contouring our approach to your situation with a constant focus on ROI.”

This Life Sciences model is “uniquely” LevLane, executives assert. “It combines intellect, talent and vision at a transformational time in the industry. Our solutions integrate the relationships among all constituents – including between ourselves and our clients. Working together, we can create new opportunities to benefit health and life and the bottom line.”

The Year’s Accomplishments

LevLane can look back with great satisfaction on 2016, “a year that saw us continue our trajectory of steady and robust growth, most notably in the Life Sciences division.”

Leading off the achievements was an agency of record appointment by Agile Therapeutics, a women’s healthcare company, for which LevLane Life Sciences is developing corporate messaging, supporting investor relations communications, driving social media strategy, and preparing for potential future product launches.

LevLane also became agency of record for Alliqua BioMedical, handling all marketing initiatives for the functional regeneration company’s full suite of technological solutions in both wound and tissue repair.

For Eagle Pharmaceuticals Inc., LevLane expanded its relationship from corporate communications, media outreach, public relations and market analysis to include project work on the company’s product line and portfolio.

Among the agency’s existing clients, for Rothman Orthopedics – the nation’s largest private ortho group – LevLane tripled the size of its lead-generating Patient Ambassador program on TV, online and social media. The agency also launched and promoted Rothman Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, the region’s only hospital devoted exclusively to orthopedic surgery. LevLane is also a key strategic and public relations consultant to longtime client Kennedy Health System in its upcoming merger with Jefferson Hospital.

The agency’s role with Cardiac Consultants of Philadelphia, America’s largest independent cardiac care practice, grew to embrace all creative content, strategic partnerships and social media outreach, a particular area of agency expertise.

The growing client roster was matched by the growth of staff, the most notable appointment being Kevin Dunn as head of Strategy & Client Engagement. According to agency leaders, Dunn is “market-proven for over 25 years” in positions with Zimmer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Vox Medica, Harte-Hanks, and Calcium USA. “Kevin is a recognized expert in brand, digital, CRM and multichannel marketing programs for healthcare professionals, patients and payers alike. He has written and lectured extensively in this arena,” executives say.

Structure & Services

“We believe LevLane’s division of Life Sciences offers clients a unique combination of skill sets and services,” executives say. “What we definitely are not is a network of agencies. That outmoded model has faltered badly due to its structural complexity, internal rivalries, response inefficiencies, and lack of access to senior-level thinking.”

Managers say instead, an independent LevLane fields a tightly integrated network of innovative individuals – a talent pool whose collective accomplishments, breadth of capabilities, and depth of understanding is “unrivaled in the industry.”

Executives say the most senior-level team members are accessible and involved at every stage – immersion, market analysis and valuation, strategic marketing communications planning and execution, brand development, payer strategy, sales force messaging, technology optimization, digital media strategy and analytics, and much more.

“The result is a unique marketplace perspective and the ability to build relationships among the diverse audiences our clients must succeed with: healthcare professionals, patients, family caregivers, and healthcare institutions,” agency leaders note. “Not abstractly, but always with an eye toward maximizing ROI.”

The agency’s services include brand strategy and communications development; strategic analysis and information modeling; KOL identification mapping and development; pricing, reimbursement, market access, and health economics modeling; advocacy development; educational and clinical communications; marketing solutions in a digital and social media environment; media outreach and public relations; social media strategy and execution; ROI analysis; and what executives characterize as a “unique array of innovative strategic partners.”

Future Plans

LevLane’s Life Sciences successes will lead to future engagements in the specialty pharmaceutical and orphan drug marketplaces.

“Prospective clients respond favorably to our ability to meld the medicinal and the communication aspects of the marketing process,” according to agency executives. “To that end, we will leverage our mastery of digital marketing and social media to reach and motivate key decision makers, especially the all-important female audience that is so critical to managing the healthcare of spouses, children and aging parents. We will call upon our own internal capabilities and our external partners’ skill sets to provide clients with the strategic imperatives and the executional solutions that will advance their cause.”

Philanthropy/Citizenship

LevLane has been committed to corporate social responsibility since its founding in 1984. In 2016, the agency made a substantial donation to the Philadelphia Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. The agency’s creative teams furnish branding and fundraising materials at cost to the Support Center for Child Advocates, an organization that provides pro bono legal services for abused and neglected children, and helps place them with foster families. Agency founder and Chief Creative Officer Bruce Lev is a longtime Support Center board member. Lev is additionally a board member of the Arts and Business Council of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

From 2001 through 2016, the agency’s other co-founder, President and CEO David Lane, has been a board member of PennFuture, Pennsylvania’s leading environmental advocacy group; he is also past president of the global Marketing Communications Agency Network.

David Huehnergarth, senior VP, director of strategic engagement, serves as a lecturing professor of campaign planning at Temple University.

Garde sits on the board of Penn State’s Smeal School of Business and lectures there regularly, while Dunn is a guest lecturer on pharmaceutical marketing at Fairleigh Dickinson University and an active contributor to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Dunn also has done pro bono work for the Help for Hep Foundation.
