LevLane executives have one question: “What’s love got to do with Life Sciences?” Their answer: “At LevLane, everything.”

According to agency leaders, “The marketing relationship we offer clients not only breaks new ground for structure, intellectual stature, responsiveness and ROI vigor, but also asks the burning question, ‘Who Loves Ya?’ How you answer that question matters. Because through decades of successful Life Science engagements, LevLane has proven that when you give people that compelling reason to become active participants in your brand, they feel the love and put their money where their heart is.”

Executives say the feeling is growing, as LevLane recently expanded its life sciences capability by bringing on Timmy Garde, a 35-year-veteran of the industry, as chief innovation leader, life sciences.

“With Timmy’s experience comes immediate access to a brain trust of senior level thinkers and doers, a swat team whose total mastery of all key disciplines runs the length and breadth of the life sciences spectrum – pharma to biotech, diagnostics to medical devices, hospitals to health and wellness,” executives say. “They are on call, and instantly available in custom configurations to match your needs and attack your marketing challenges.

“Building emotional connections is at the heart of it. We crack the code on linking your brand and all of its constituents. We then diffuse that thinking throughout the industry eco-system, contouring our approach to your situation with great agility, and a constant focus on ROI.”

According to agency leaders, LevLane has extensive knowledge of disease states, health system organizations, senior care services, and the key influencers associated with each. “We are as engaged with key opinion leaders as we are with prescribing health care professionals and end users,” executives say. “And we’re marketing communications experts at looking at life sciences through the payer lens regarding market access, reimbursement issues, and health economics and outcomes research.”

Executives believe that this life sciences model “is uniquely LevLane. It combines intellect, talent and ability at a transformational time within the industry. Our solutions are sophisticated, innovative, effective, and designed to optimize the relationships among all constituents – including between ourselves and our clients. Working together, we can create new opportunities to benefit health and life and the bottom line. “

The year’s accomplishments

According to agency leaders, “2015 was LevLane’s healthiest year ever.” This was achieved by formalizing the agency’s decades of healthcare achievements into a dedicated life sciences division with Garde at its helm, and a team of senior level partners at his right hand. Last year the agency added key staff members in every department and “burst the seams of the space we’ve occupied in the Wanamaker Building since 2005,” executives say. “The move upstairs to bigger, brighter, more accommodating quarters was only one measure of our growth and success. Others include several important new client wins, and new initiatives for existing business.”

New clients include Eagle Pharmaceuticals Inc., which selected LevLane to provide corporate communications, public relations, media outreach, and market analysis. MDVIP, the nation’s largest concierge primary care practice group, used the agency’s digital targeting strategy to take them to the next level, executives say. Cardiac Consultants of Philadelphia, America’s largest independent cardiac care practice, entrusted all of its branding and marketing activity to LevLane, as well as Beck Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Pivot Physical Therapy, and a number of senior living communities. Among existing clients, LevLane claims its marketing effort for Rothman Institute filled its waiting rooms with joint replacement prospects in unprecedented numbers; the agency’s campaign for Kennedy Health promoted its primary care physician network and won a national marketing effectiveness award in the process; and LevLane’s introduction of the Jefferson Comprehensive Concussion Center responded to a growing sports medicine crisis.

“New clients come, and existing clients want to stay, because they recognize that, with LevLane, they are getting a level of strategic thinking, creative ability, and positive ROI not replicated anywhere else,” executives say.

Structure and services

According to agency executives, “To appreciate what LevLane Life Sciences is, you have to understand what we‘re not. We are definitely not a network of agencies. That once-glittering model has been noticeably tarnished, a victim of its own structural complexity, internal rivalries, response inefficiencies, and inaccessibility to senior level thinking.”

LevLane says it has assembled a network of innovative individuals, “a professional talent pool whose collective accomplishments reflect a breadth of capabilities and a depth of understanding that has no equal in the industry.”

“Coupled with our agency’s own internal resources, we are poised to bring these disciplines together in whatever combination best addresses a client’s business challenges,” Garde says. “Ours is a lean, mean problem-solving machine that partners closely, moves swiftly and responds nimbly.” The most senior level people are accessible and involved at every stage – immersion, market analysis and valuation, strategic marketing communications planning and execution, brand development, payer strategy, sales force messaging, technology optimization, digital media strategy and analytics, and much more. It all adds up to a unique marketplace perspective and the ability to build relationships among the diverse audiences our clients must succeed with: healthcare professionals, patients, family caregivers, and healthcare institutions. Not abstractly, but always with an eye toward maximizing ROI.

Future plans

LevLane Life Sciences plans to continue to build its client roster with a particular emphasis on specialty pharmaceuticals and orphan drugs. “We will call upon our own proven internal capabilities and our external partners’ skill sets to provide clients with the strategic imperatives and the executional solutions that will advance their cause,” executives say. “The way we are configured brings more intellectual prowess to the table. It enables us to create the emotional connections that influence attitudes and motivate behavior. And allows us to develop monetizing, ROI-driven solutions around them. In the very fluid life sciences category, this is a time of major transformation. The old formulaic thinking no longer produces the necessary results. Innovation and talent does. LevLane Life Sciences is committed to being at the forefront of this new paradigm.”

Philanthropy/citizenship

Agency leaders say LevLane has been committed to corporate social responsibility since it opened in 1984. “It begins with the clients we engage with,” executives say. “The products or services they stand behind should, in some way, advance the human condition.”

With that in mind, the agency has taken part in the Philly Ad Club’s annual Heart of Advertising. For the Philadelphia Department of Streets, LevLane participates in the annual Philly Spring Cleanup. LevLane has also done continuous branding and fundraising work at cost for the Support Center for Child Advocates, an organization that provides interventional pro bono legal services for abused and neglected children, and helps place them with foster families. Partner Bruce Lev serves as a longtime Support Center board member. The agency also donates creative services to produce the annual report for Philabundance each year, and did all the design and promotional work to launch Fare & Square, the supermarket Philabundance opened in the underserved “food desert” of Chester, Pa.

Since 2001 President and CEO, David Lane, has been a board member of PennFuture, Pennsylvania’s leading environmental advocacy group; he is also past president of MAGNET, the global marketing communications agency network. Lev is a perennial adjunct professor of advertising at Temple University’s School of Business, and a board member of the Arts & Business Council of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

“At LevLane, giving back is another way to feel the love,” executives say.
