Med Ad News Launches First-Ever MedAdvocate Judging Panel

The staff of Med Ad News implemented a new layer of judging to the 2016 Manny Awards creative categories process. As in past years, all of the submitted creative campaign materials were uploaded into a web gallery and voted on by the lead creative directors and presidents from the pool of eligible healthcare communications agencies. From that tier one process of voting, representing nearly 2,000 campaign ballots cast, three finalist campaigns for each creative award category were selected.

For the 2016 creative awards, a live jury deliberation consisting of industry experts was introduced as a second tier of the voting process. A group of highly regarded creative talent was assembled to evaluate finalist campaigns selected by the larger community of healthcare communications professionals invited to participate in the initial online voting process.

Finalists in each creative category were reviewed by the select judging panel. As part of that process, each finalist campaign was assigned a MedAdvocate, an unbiased representative asked to showcase the outstanding components of that finalist campaign and to inspire a dialog surrounding that submission. Each MedAdvocate was assigned three different campaign entries in advance to review and lead a discussion on. The final part of the process culminated on March 21 in the form of a working-dinner casual event at The National Bar & Dining Rooms in New York City. Following the discussions for each Manny Award creative category, the jury was asked to cast their blind ballots for every winning campaign. The MedAdvocate ballots, along with the results from the first wave of voting by all other agency personnel, are tallied together by the Med Ad News team to determine the winners of the 2016 creative award campaigns.

“In 2015, we piloted a program virtually, inviting some key creatives to vote from the pool of finalists only,” stated Med Ad News Brand Director Daniel Becker. “What we found was that while the results supported our longstanding democratic voting process, a second level of review more clearly defined the components of a winning campaign. We’re very excited to take this a step further with our live jury for the 2016 Manny Awards.”

The staff of Med Ad News greatly appreciates the time, effort and stimulating dialog put forth by the exceptionally talented and thought-provoking MedAdvocate panel, and looks forward to continuing the process in 2017 and beyond.
