Medication Adherence Experts Challenge Status Quo in New HealthPrize Interviews

Academic and industry professionals offer insights into measurement methods, intervention targeting, adherence goals

NORWALK, Conn., January 11, 2016 – In a newly released survey conducted by HealthPrize Technologies, an industry-leading medication adherence and digital patient engagement company, medication adherence experts across varied fields shared their views on advances in – and challenges of – current research. Specifically, what has moved the needle, what remains in need of greater depth of knowledge, and what misperceptions may cause roadblocks along the way.

“Insights gained from our interviews challenge the results of decades of study, reinforcing the idea that medication adherence research is ever-evolving,” says Katrina Firlik, MD, co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of HealthPrize. “Up for debate are how we understand adherence patterns, patients for adherence interventions, and set adherence goals. At the same time that fundamental debate persists, however, it is clear that real forward progress is being made.”

Among the insights offered by the expert panel were thoughts on group-based trajectory models to measure adherence longitudinally, personalized interventions to avoid the one-size-fits-all approach, and inherent inaccuracies found in current adherence measurement metrics.

The experts who were interviewed by HealthPrize are:
