Staying the course was the theme for 2022 for NaviSync – which executives state was an eventful year that saw the organization achieve continued growth in a marketplace that required significant adaptability.

Managed markets agency NaviSync is led by COO and Managing Partner Bill Kelly, Executive Creative Director and Partner Michael Son, CCO and Partner Greg Condit, and Executive VP, Chief Strategy Officer Doug Wynn. According to the leadership team, NaviSync helps pharmaceutical clients achieve their goals by providing proven strategic guidance backed by best-in-class execution. The agency is independently owned and operated by NPG Health and is accompanied by sister agency PRYME, which is dedicated to HCP and patient promotion.

Recent accomplishments

In 2022, the NaviSync team say the agency marked a number of important milestones. NaviSync hired its 100th employee and has since surpassed that total.

On the business front, NaviSync held steady at 10 percent growth from the previous year and overcame multiple FDA approval delays through continued organic growth with existing clients and several new opportunities that portend well for the coming year, managers say. The company was awarded another significant piece of health systems business, launching a high-profile biosimilar product. The team also won a new workstream for a small pharma company launching a new iron deficiency treatment and is in the midst of prelaunch work (market access and patient support) for a unique oncology brand.

Finally, as part of NPG Health, NaviSync and PRYME were recognized as one of the Best Places to Work NJ 2022 by NJBIZ. “The Best Places to Work NJ award is open to any business in the state – to be repeatedly recognized based on our staff’s confidential feedback is almost unheard of,” says Duina Llanes, director, people operations.

Structure and services

Chronic kidney disease

Chronic kidney disease associated with type 2 diabetes is a population health concern throughout the United States. Transforming approaches to kidney health screening and promoting access to appropriate treatments can help to improve outcomes for patients with CKD associated with T2D.

According to the leadership team, NaviSync and NPG Health took a huge step forward in expanding their strategic offerings in 2022 with the acquisition of Managed Market Resources, a strategic consulting services company dedicated to innovation in the healthcare marketplace. Executives say MMR gives NaviSync an expanded strategic knowledge base to better support clients.

MMR President Gary Branning joins the Navisync team with the goal of providing exposure to a wider client set and helping to leverage the company’s existing client relationships to better achieve organizational goals. The acquisition also serves to greatly broaden the organization’s network of industry advisors, furthering NPG Health’s strategic support and growing its agency offerings. Both NaviSync and Pryme will now provide MMR with a market-leading execution arm to augment its strategic and tactical delivery capabilities.

In addition to the MMR acquisition, NaviSync expanded its strategic services team, hiring health system expert Kari Oshirak as senior director, market access strategy as well as healthcare policy authority Sean Gracey as senior director, strategic services.

According to leaders, NaviSync continues to provide its employees with unsurpassed benefits and flexibility. “While many organizations have begun to call employees back into the office, NaviSync remains committed to a hybrid environment that is determined by employee and business needs,” executives say. “This commitment has led to continued year-over-year growth, the success of the agency’s brands, and the continual elevation of high-performing employees across all departments.”

NaviSync has transitioned its HR department into People Operations, supported by additional compliance and training offerings along with a broader communications platform that are a reflection of a changing workforce, executives say.

Managers note that the NaviSync digital services department underwent a complete transformation in 2022, starting with the hiring of Executive VP Frank Saia. “After a number of years of balancing in-house digital development with outside resources, NaviSync now has a full complement of digital offerings under its roof aimed at better serving clients and building additional relationships backed by digital strategy,” executives say.

Future plans

NaviSync looks to the near term future with a focus on strengthening its approach to serving clients. Executives say with a proven track record of successful business growth, the company is committed to reinvesting in its current offerings. “Being able to help facilitate the success of our clients’ brands in getting the appropriate treatment options into the hands of patients is what drives our desire for success,” Condit says.

The agency has also expanded its PharmD internship program, which executives say has been an ongoing source of talent and knowledge for NaviSync.

In addition to taking on more interns, NaviSync has joined with Rutgers School of Pharmacy to broaden its range of intern partnerships. “We’ve always been extremely lucky to have a dedicated team of experienced market access writers who know the ins and outs of the managed care space,” says Mark Breaugh, senior VP, director of content development. “Augmenting that talent with the clinical knowledge that PharmD writers bring to the table is a significant differentiator for us.”

Philanthropy/citizenship

NaviSync has deep roots within the Morristown community and a long-standing history of supporting numerous charities locally and nationwide, according to the leadership team. “We are so fortunate to have [these] opportunities, both as employees and as people. That said, it’s all the more important to give back to the community in light of our continued success,” Kelly says.

Most recently the agency provided financial support to the Where Angels Play Foundation, a charity dedicated to building playgrounds in needy communities nationwide. NaviSync also continues to support the Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit organization that helps improve the well-being of children and their families.
