2022 is off to an impressive start for Peregrine Market Access, agency leaders say, with the securing of a multiyear, multimillion-dollar agreement as the contract commercialization organization for Nonagen Bioscience. The Peregrine team will lead the United States launch of Nonagen’s novel bladder cancer diagnostic test. Agency executives say this partnership will enable Peregrine to showcase the breadth and depth of its capabilities, including consulting, communication, and execution phases of market access and brand campaigns.

Recent Accomplishments

The early 2022 success comes on the heels of a banner year at the veteran-owned commercialization partner, the leadership team states. Over the course of 2021, Peregrine’s growth trajectory soared and was punctuated by 14 new full-time hires, eight new accounts, and annual revenue that more than doubled from $4 million in 2020 to $9 million in 2021.

According to agency executives, the Peregrine team continues to consistently win 80 percent of its pitches and its client roster is diverse, ranging from single-product companies to a large, multibrand corporation. “Peregrine’s expertise in FDAMA Section 114, access challenges, and health economics is especially sought after by orphan drug manufacturers seeking to effectively demonstrate the value of their innovative products, as well as startup companies that lean on Peregrine’s industry experience and leadership.”

Management says, “The company’s thought leadership is evidenced at industry congresses and in market access journals where Peregrine’s medical and health economic experts have been published. In academia, Peregrine President John Guarino and Content VP Patrick Gless serve as adjunct professors at the Graduate School of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California.”

The agency had some notable highlights from 2021. Peregrine supported G1 Therapeutics’ first commercial launch in February. “Peregrine developed a value proposition for Cosela (trilaciclib) and segmented formulary decision-makers to ensure engagements occurred with the most impactful payers,” Peregrine executives say. “Then the team facilitated a series of virtual pre-approval information exchange and launch meetings with all targeted payers within a short three-month period. As a result, 94 percent of total targeted lives have positive access to Cosela, which exceeded G1’s targeted goal.”

The agency developed a customized Access Decision Model, – a web-based cost calculator – for Ipsen’s account managers to model cost savings during conversations with formulary decision-makers. “A poster abstract of the model was accepted and presented at the 2021 ISPOR virtual conference and received rave reviews from Ipsen’s field team for its utility, design, and ease of use,” management says.

For CSL Behring, Peregrine came up with value materials as that company prepares for the future launch of a breakthrough gene therapy for hemophilia B.

Agency leaders say other achievements include debuting at No. 589 on Inc. 5000’s list of the fastest-growing private companies in America, as Peregrine grew 817 percent over a three-year period; opening a new, larger office in Santa Monica, Calif., in the fall of 2021 to meet the growing number of West Coast clients; earning a Great Place to Work certification for its positive workplace based on an independently administered survey of employees; and implementing a no-cost healthcare benefit for Peregrine employees and their families in June 2021.

Structure and Services

BeiGene’s Market Access Business Unit needed a formalized, cohesive branding system that reflected the BeiGene corporate brand, mission, and values, while also providing a distinctive and consistent appearance for a range of economic, clinical, and above-brand conversations. The solution was a comprehensive branding system style guide segmented by audience and type of information being shared.

Leaders attribute Peregrine’s growth and success to the agency’s platform of eight business units that offer clients a spectrum of interconnected consulting, communication, and commercialization services.

Market Access Communications provides full-service marketing and communications that effectively tell a brand’s value narrative in an eloquent and visually elegant manner.

The Contract Account & Sales Team consists of professionals with decades of experience “who seamlessly integrate with client teams to secure the most profitable access for client brands,” company managers say.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Peregrine Market Access has a strong financial forecast that points to 100 percent revenue growth in 2022 for the second year in a row, agency leaders say. “Hiring will also continue across departments and at both office locations to keep pace with new business wins.” They add that Peregrine’s full-service contract commercialization organization capabilities will be on display in the coming months and years as the agency partners with Nonagen

Bioscience to launch its novel diagnostic test, Oncuria, in the third quarter of 2023.

Peregrine leaders expect to expand the physical footprint of the Saratoga Springs, N.Y., headquarters to accommodate a growing workforce. Plus, the agency continues to plan for an on-site daycare center in Saratoga to support its working parents once the pandemic winds down.

“Overall, the growing Peregrine team will continue to advance its mission to redefine the value of healthcare in America through its work for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients and by elevating thought leadership discourse on this vital subject,” Peregrine executives say.

Philanthropy/Citizenship

Giving back and service to others is a core component of Peregrine’s culture,” the leadership team says. “Each year, Peregrine provides support to non-profit organizations across the United States, with an emphasis on charities in and around our office locations. Causes are selected to align with Peregrine’s mission, values, work, and culture and range from supporting veterans, advancing healthcare and supporting human rights, to organizing community drives for those in need.”

With women comprising more than 60 percent of the workforce, the agency developed a women’s group in 2021 “to empower our female colleagues to lead, navigate challenges, and realize their full potential,” management says. The group provides peer-to-peer support, mentoring, professional skill development programs.

Additionally, Peregrine is rolling out wellness programs that include in-office lunch-and-learns given by a health coach and in-office yoga and meditation classes for employees; and a “Green Team” focused on ways Peregrine can be more environmentally friendly
