Promotions, new hire at closerlook

closerlook inc. has promoted David Droll to managing director, Binish Khan as associate director of interactive technology, and Chelsea Patton to group account director. The agency also welcomed a new addition to the business development team, healthcare tech executive Patrick Flavin.

Flavin comes to closerlook with more than 20 years of experience in the life sciences and health tech space at a time when pharmaceutical companies are expanding their digital presence to help market their brands.

“Our industry is in a pivotal time,” says Pete Clancy, VP of marketing strategy. “Two events are transforming pharma marketing. The first is the shift from blockbuster drugs to specialty or rare disease products, which can’t be promoted en masse. The second is the sudden impact COVID-19 has had on pharmaceutical sales and marketing. While the agency is already experiencing significant growth, Patrick becomes an accelerant to achieving our goals next year and beyond.”

Before joining closerlook, Flavin was president of ARCHES, a technology company that allows healthcare organizations to expand their cancer support services and strengthen their relationships with patients. He also worked as a business development executive for Outcome Health in the point-of-care space and is a co-founder of MATTER, a healthcare startup incubator and innovation accelerator.

Flavin is working alongside closerlook’s business development team and introducing the agency to his large relationship network.

David Droll

Droll was formerly a group account director. “David’s unique expertise in both marketing and data analytics makes him a great asset to the closerlook account team,” says Allison Davis, chief client officer. “With his previous experience as a data-driven strategist, David is able to provide confident counsel to clients that is consistently rooted in data and insight. He’s known for his commitment and hustle. He’s also a great team leader and teacher. David’s clients laud his ability to ensure their expectations are met and exceeded.”

Droll started at closerlook in 1998 as a designer. He returned to closerlook in 2014, first working in the agency’s strategy department focusing on the diabetes product portfolio before transitioning to account management in 2019.

Binish Khan

According to management, as leading a team of engineers requires a unique combination of skills, Khan’s promotion reflects her technical knowledge, excellent leadership skills and her ability to foster a community of empathy and collaboration unique to the tech space.

“Binish Khan has a natural, technical intuition that is full of curiosity and great technical strategies,” says Steve Tulk, chief technology officer. “But I think the most valuable skills that she brings to the agency are her collaboration, communication and empathy. Her ability to listen to her team and encourage them to go the extra mile is what sets her apart from most in the technical field. Our experience has shown that highly motivated employees produce higher quality work.”

Khan is managing a team of seven software engineers and is responsible for all software developed at closerlook, ensuring that products are created and executed accurately and effectively. She is also charged with developing the agency’s technical standards and in choosing the technology tools and platforms the agency uses.

Chelsea Patton

Khan first joined closerlook in 2015 and left a few years later for a new opportunity that expanded her leadership skills. She returned to closerlook in 2018 as interactive lead manager.

Patton was promoted from the role of account director. “Chelsea is a rising star at closerlook and has been since we brought her on,” Davis says. “She’s built accounts from the ground up and helped lead several product launches. Her success stems from her dedication and empathy for the patients and the audience that we’re helping our clients reach. She is a model example of great leadership and inspires other team members in their professional development.”
