Bavarian Nordic, the maker of the only approved monkeypox vaccine, said on Wednesday it was exploring the viability of using technically expired doses to help bridge a growing gap between demand and supply due to the current outbreak.

Bavarian Nordic, the Danish company behind the vaccine being used to try to stem a global outbreak of monkeypox, is in talks to potentially expand production capacity, its CEO said on Monday.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) had “adopted a positive opinion recommending that the marketing authorization for the company’s smallpox vaccine, IMVANEX, is extended to include protecting people from monkeypox disease,” Bavarian said.
The European Union’s drug regulator said on Tuesday it has started a review to extend the use of Bavarian Nordic’s (BAVA.CO) smallpox vaccine to prevent monkeypox disease as well.
Danish biotechnology company Bavarian Nordic on Wednesday lifted the company’s sales outlook and now expects a smaller operating loss this year after signing a contract with an undisclosed country for the supply of its monkeypox vaccine.
