The U.S. health regulator did not find any misconduct at clinical sites managed by Care Access for Pfizer (PFE.N) and French partner Valneva’s (VLS.PA) trial of a Lyme disease vaccine candidate, the contract research firm stated.

Today French vaccine maker Valneva reported a smaller half-year loss, as a rebound in global tourism boosted sales of its travel vaccines Ixiario and Dukoral.

The decision could delay the time to approval of a vaccine that Valneva expects could become a blockbuster shot as infections rise globally due to a burgeoning population of ticks, which usually cause Lyme disease.

RSV, influenza, COVID-19 and monkeypox have dominated vaccine discussions this year, but vaccines are also being developed for a host of other infectious diseases.

Unlike the fierce competition with major international drugmakers such as Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca to roll out vaccines to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, there are no established rivals for either Lyme disease or Chikungunya.

U.S. healthcare giant Pfizer has agreed to invest 90.5 million euros ($95.24 million) to buy an 8.1% percent stake in French vaccines company, as the companies announced developments in their partnership to tackle Lyme disease.
