A former employee of a Massachusetts compounding pharmacy whose mold-tainted drugs sparked a deadly nationwide fungal meningitis outbreak in 2012 was sentenced on Tuesday to five months in prison for deceiving regulators about its operations before the tragedy.

Merck scored another big win Wednesday with a U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for an expanded indication of Vaxneuvance, its pneumococcal 15-valent conjugate vaccine. The new indication includes children 6 weeks through 17 years of age.

GSK on Tuesday agreed to buy U.S. biotech Affinivax for up to $3.3 billion, its second major deal in two months, giving the British pharmaceutical giant access to the privately held company’s roster of next-generation vaccines.
