As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to recede, the top pharma companies intensified their focus into areas such as cancer and metabolic diseases to build up their pipelines, and their growth prospects, for the future.

European drugmakers warned that a proposed complete ban on substances known as PFAS or “forever chemicals” would render medicine production in the region impossible, part of a high-stakes wrangle between manufacturers and environmental regulators.

The Anglo-Swedish drugmaker said the long-term agreement with Massachusetts-based Vanguard Renewables would enable it to transition to biogas from natural gas and cut its emissions across its U.S. research and manufacturing sites.

Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk will buy its e-methanol to substitute fossil-based plastic in insulin pens and other medical devices.

The four companies will share knowledge on packaging technologies to reduce environmental burden, such as blister packs made of biomass-based plastic instead of petroleum-derived plastic, compact packaging, recycled packaging materials, and recyclable packaging materials.
