Attending Emergency Physician
Reb Close, MD, is an Attending Emergency Physician at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, and the lead clinical physician for the Monterey County Prescribe Safe Initiative. The Monterey Prescribe Safe Initiative is a collaborative effort in Monterey County to promote the safe use of prescription drugs, promote safe pain management, reduce overdoses, and address substance use through preventative efforts and treatment.
Dr. Close attended medical school at UCLA, and completed residency in Emergency Medicine at UCLA-Olive View Medical Center in Los Angeles. She has been practicing Emergency Medicine at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula since 2003.

Susan Burnell is currently director of emergency services for Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) where she is responsible for oversight of all emergency services, including crisis intervention, observation unit, mobile health clinic and 36-bed emergency department.
Before that, she held positions as director of educational services and clinical educators at CHOMP. Burnell holds a Master of Science degree in nursing and is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association.
