The British biopharma company reported 10% sales growth in the third quarter, driven mainly by robust sales of its respiratory syncytial virus shot Arexvy and shingles vaccine Shingrix.

Pfizer , which dominated COVID vaccine sales, now finds itself looking up at GSK , whose rival new respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine has surged to an early lead since the shots launched this summer.

The British drugmaker’s shot, called Arexvy, met the primary goal in the Phase-III trial of eliciting an immune response in adults of the reported age group who are at an increased risk of catching the virus due to certain underlying medical conditions, the company said.

The therapy, branded as Beyfortus, will be available in the U.S. ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 RSV season, Sanofi said.

British biopharmaceutical giant GSK sued Pfizer in Delaware federal court on Wednesday, accusing Pfizer’s respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine Abrysvo of violating GSK’s patent rights in its rival RSV shot Arexvy.

While GlaxoSmithKline is anticipating a slower uptake of respiratory syncytial virus vaccine Arexvy, CEO Emma Walmsley said Wednesday the company is pinning much of its growth on the vaccine’s performance.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorized GSK’s shot, called Arexvy, for active immunization to prevent lower respiratory tract disease caused by RSV in adults 60 years and older.

The company announced it started the application process to get an approval for its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine in older adults with regulators in the United States, Australia and Europe.

The recommendation comes after the agency’s advisers backed the use of the shots last week in older adults, but stopped short of saying all of them should get the shots.

The advisers voted unanimously in favor of using the antibody, nirsevimab, in newborns and infants to prevent infections in their first RSV season.
