2021 marked another year of momentum building at EVERSANA ENGAGE, management says, as the next-generation agency continued to drive digital adoption, exceptional creative and integrated marketing communications efforts across the pharmaceutical industry to help connect payers, providers and patients with meaningful messages about client therapies and programs that change lives. “And if you meet the team and get to know their DNA at EVERSANA ENGAGE, you will not be surprised,” management says.

“Being a next generation agency that sits within the EVERSANA ecosystem, the leading provider of innovative solutions, we are built to meet clients’ needs today and into the future,” says Seth Gordon, general manager at EVERSANA ENGAGE. “Working at ENGAGE means you have access to cutting-edge, data-driven platforms coupled with seasoned medical strategists to meet the needs of our clients across a myriad of therapeutic areas and stakeholders.”

Agency executives maintain that the “relentless focus on client delight” and patients is reflective of a strong 2021.

Recent Accomplishments

The agency has more than 200 employees across the U.S. and is part of EVERSANA, the leading independent provider of commercial services to the life sciences industry. EVERSANA ENGAGE was introduced in January 2020, just months before all teams would move remote due to COVID-19. Despite this, management says 2020 was a very strong year, and 2021 was the agency’s best year ever, under the leadership of Gordon and the addition of Amy Hutnik, who joined EVERSANA in February 2021 to oversee Agency, Advisory, and Evidence Services.

EVERSANA ENGAGE added 26 new product brands to the roster and 18 new manufacturer clients. The ENGAGE team launched five therapies throughout the year, leading marketing efforts to bring critical therapies to patients in need across a range of therapeutic categories.

EVERSANA ENGAGE secured its fourth gene therapy client and its first digital therapeutics agency of record account, and continued to grow its roster of large pharma clients, working with 10 customers in the industry’s top 20.

“And finally, it’s all about talent at EVERSANA ENGAGE, and the agency added talented team members throughout the year,” management says. “But it doesn’t stop here.”

According to the leadership team, EVERSANA ENGAGE saw impressive growth in all four primary parts of its business – market access, accounting for 45 percent of total business; direct-to-patient campaign work, netting roughly 30 percent of the business in 2021; communications targeting healthcare providers, at 18 percent; and the remaining work on medical communications programs.

The agency continued to grow as the AOR for all EVERSANA COMPLETE Commercialization agreements, in which pharmaceutical companies turn to EVERSANA to help with nearly every aspect of commercializing a therapy, including marketing agency services.

The EVERSANA COMPLETE Commercialization programs included a COVID-19 treatment and a new breast cancer treatment with MacroGenics. The EVERSANA ENGAGE team also continued growth with the first COMPLETE deal announced by EVERSANA, with Evoke Pharma and Gimoti, a novel nasal spray for the treatment of gastroparesis.

Another highlight of 2021 was the award of a significant omnichannel engagement, building on the momentum the team developed under the leadership of Bill O’Bryon, managing director of digital.

The omnichannel program harnesses the power of the company’s robust data and analytics platform in ACTICS by EVERSANA and then uses these insights together with digital engagement tools to develop programs that ensure patients receive the right messaging at the right time throughout the entire care continuum. “We’ve moved the needle so much in 2021 thanks to the commitment of our team and their passion for our clients, which we see each and every day,” Gordon says.

Structure and Services

2021 saw the growth of leaders within EVERSANA ENGAGE. The leadership team reporting to Gordon includes O’Bryon, who has seen his team of digital experts expand significantly in the past year.

Other key members of the EVERSANA ENGAGE leadership team include Jodi Ceberio, managing director, client services; Jeff LaVaute, managing director, strategy; Richard Stefanacci, D.O., chief medical officer; Craig Ornstein, Ph.D., managing director, medical; Taegan Grice, managing director, creative; and Marissa Moriarty, executive VP, operations.

Management says one way the agency created more connections to maximize client focus and efficiencies across teams was the introduction of a new brand POD program. The program took teams within the agency and divided them into smaller groups to create better connections. It infused local cultural elements into each POD, including names, logos and mission statements. PODs like The Cove and The Tropics gave teams a sense of greater identity and camaraderie as they came together each day, even if virtually.

EVERSANA ENGAGE also enhanced its talent pool by adding medical writers, digital experts and editing team members in parts of Asia Pacific and Canada, helping to strengthen the agency’s global footprint and capabilities.

“Throughout the year, communication and culture are paramount to keep the team connected,” agency managers say. “Each month the team connects from across the globe in their monthly All Agency Meeting, not only a celebration of great work and business updates but also a time to raise a toast to weddings, babies and fun games and activities. From ugly sweater competitions for the holidays to Fourth of July attire, the ENGAGE team, starting with leaders, works tirelessly to keep their employees connected and balanced.”

Additionally, managers say activities that drive human and team connections remain paramount inside EVERSANA ENGAGE, with virtual events including team trivia, virtual yoga, monthly step challenges and more to bring to life the spirit of the agency.

“The cultural aspects of what makes EVERSANA ENGAGE such a great place are so vital to our success,” Grice says. “We work hard but find time to connect in fun and memorable ways throughout the year, and everyone on the team finds time for these events. It’s part of who we are.”

Future Plans

EVERSANA ENGAGE’s future is brighter than ever, agency executives say, adding that with the addition of the Intouch Group to the EVERSANA family, opportunities for growth, expansion and collaboration are endless in 2022 and beyond.

In late 2021, the ENGAGE leadership team began meetings with Intouch and EVERSANA leadership to best determine how the agencies will come together in 2022.

According to the leadership team, more plans and information will be made available later in 2022, “but together EVERSANA ENGAGE and the Intouch Group, an EVERSANA Company, create a top 5 agency in North America, with nearly 2,000 creative employees in a next-generation agency model designed to educate, motivate and activate a positive health experience for patients and the caregiving community around them. This combined power, coupled with EVERSANA ENGAGE’s deep knowledge and experience in cell and gene therapy and rare disease and its connection to EVERSANA and its COMPLETE Commercialization program, promises a bright future for ENGAGE.”

“Together with the Intouch team and as a part of EVERSANA, we’re poised for amazing growth,” Gordon says. “We have a rare opportunity to be at the forefront of helping bring life-saving therapies to market. We also have a responsibility to find ways to tell the stories of these critical therapies and programs on behalf of our clients to help providers, payers and, most importantly, patients have a brighter future. It’s a responsibility we do not take lightly.”

Philanthropy/Citizenship

Being connected to the larger community also is valued at EVERSANA ENGAGE,” the leadership team says. “And it happens at both macro and micro levels.”

Teams support local charities. Some have raised money for local food banks. Others collected holiday presents for children in need in San Diego; New Jersey; and Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

As an agency, the team continues to support Go4TheGoal, a nonprofit organization that provides resources for children and their families battling cancer. Management says the nonprofit organization’s mission and purpose are personal to EVERSANA ENGAGE. It was founded in 2006 by Stefanacci, just weeks after his son was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Stefanacci started the nonprofit with his wife in hopes of providing financial support and programs to help families facing this rare disease.

The EVERSANA ENGAGE team has embraced Go4theGoal, volunteering time and resources to make a difference in the lives of families and children. “To see the entire agency support families and children at one of their toughest moments makes working with this passionate team so meaningful,” Stefanacci says.

Melanoma – which is highly preventable – is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Early detection and treatment are vital for improving melanoma survival rates, but significant barriers, such as a lack of skin checks and patients’ apprehension about biopsies, must be overcome. That’s where the DermTech Melanoma Test comes in. This pioneering, noninvasive technology utilizes precision genomics to enable earlier melanoma detection and help save lives.
