Career Conversation 10 – Inclusive Leadership
March 1 – 12:00 PM ET – Webinar

What does it mean to be an inclusive leader, and why is inclusiveness important? What are the potential business benefits associated with an inclusive work environment or leadership style? And how can business professionals develop/strengthen their abilities to become an inclusive leader?

During this webinar, we will discuss three practical steps that you can take to develop your ability to be an inclusive leader:

  • Fostering a “speak up” culture that will allow you to access different experiences and perspectives.
  • Leveraging the “diversity of thought” of team members and business partners to generate new ideas to drive innovation.
  • Expanding your personal and professional network by being intentional about connecting with people who are not like you to develop your cultural intelligence.

The HBA is pleased to welcome Tiffany Hester to the Career Conversations webinar series. Tiffany is senior diversity manager, Genentech, Inc., supporting both the commercial and US medical affairs sectors. Originally a consultant to the company, she developed multiple e-Modules on this topic including “D&I: The Bottom Line, Inclusive Leadership, and Differences that Make a Difference.” Tiffany began her career more than 20 years ago as an instructional designer before specializing in diversity and inclusion. She has consulted with numerous organizations, both within and outside healthcare, on this topic.

Providing an executive lens to this discussion is Carol Wells, senior director, commercial training and development, Genentech, Inc., where she is responsible for cross-portfolio sales training, management and leadership development, training operations and functional training including marketing, thought- leader partnerships, managed care and medical science. Prior to joining Genentech in 2004, she was director of national accounts at Sanofi-Aventis and general manager/VP of sales and marketing at Elan. Carol is an inspirational leader, well known to many throughout the HBA. She served as president of HBA San Francisco in 2011 and 2013 and received the Council of Chapter Presidents’ award. At the association level, Carol was named the 2015 HBA STAR and was honored at the 2015 Woman of the Year event in NYC. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and received her MBA from Rockhurst University.

Moderating this conversation is Laurie Lucas, principal of L3 Healthcare Marketing. Laurie has held executive leadership positions in medical education and communications companies including Discovery Chicago, where she was VP/group account director and at ProEd Communications, where she was executive vice president. Laurie is director-at-large, chapter programming, membership and volunteer engagement on the HBA board; prior to that, she served on the board of HBA Chicago.
