Procter & Gamble was voluntarily recalling some dry conditioner and shampoo sprays sold in the United States and Canada from the company’s Pantene and Herbal Essences brands due to the presence of a cancer-causing chemical.

Merck is recalling some 22,000 vials of 500 mg Cubicin for intravenous injection following a complaint that a piece of glass was found in one of the vials post reconstitution.

Pfizer Inc. said on Aug. 13 the company is recalling four additional lots of the anti-smoking treatment Chantix after finding elevated levels of cancer-causing agents called nitrosamines in the pills.

Pfizer issued a voluntary recall for 12 lots of the company’s anti-smoking drug Chantix (varenicline) due to the presence of a nitrosamine impurity exceeding the company’s established Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) level. As a result, Pfizer is pausing distribution of Chantix and is accelerating the company’s internal testing of the product.

Johnson & Johnson is voluntarily recalling five Neutrogena and Aveeno brand aerosol sunscreen products after detecting a cancer-causing chemical in some samples.

Dutch medical equipment company Philips recalled some breathing devices and ventilators because of a foam part that might degrade and become toxic, potentially causing cancer.

Two weeks after announcing concerns about high-levels of carcinogens in popular diabetes drugs, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the first voluntary recalls of this class of drugs manufactured by five companies.
