Peregrine Market Access had an influx of new business in 2023 as pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers looked for expertise and a trusted partner to help them navigate the complexities of the healthcare marketplace, agency leaders state.

“Market access is paramount to the success of any treatment, diagnostic, or medical device, yet intense competition and the rise of new policies and regulations have made the road to commercialization more challenging than ever,” executives say. “As such, Peregrine Market Access has been asked by several clients over the last year to assist with strategies related to the implications of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and average manufacturer price (AMP) cap removal. Also, Peregrine’s Health Economics team has developed several customizable digital modeling tools to demonstrate the value of treatments in support of more informed formulary decision-making.

“With new brand accounts being onboarded and a number of new business opportunities on the horizon, Peregrine Market Access is preparing for another busy year.”

Recent accomplishments

According to agency leaders, Peregrine Market Access has provided strategy, consulting, and tactical execution for a “myriad” of marketing and communications projects to its growing roster of clients. The agency secured 15 new accounts in 2023, including work with Boehringer Ingelheim and Sanofi.

Executives say Peregrine has continued to be an integral market access partner to CSL Behring, leaning in to support the adoption of favorable coverage for Hemgenix (etranacogene dezaparvovec-drlb), the first gene therapy for the treatment of hemophilia B.

Additionally, as the market access agency of record for BeiGene, Peregrine Market Access has assisted in building BeiGene’s corporate reputation in market access and successfully launching new indications for Brukinsa (zanubrutinib), a Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor for the treatment of B-cell lymphomas.

In the promising yet complicated biosimilar space, Peregrine Market Access has partnered with Teva and other companies to conduct market research to uncover biosimilar adoption hurdles across value chain stakeholders. Peregrine is also providing strategies for overcoming these barriers.

On the personnel front, Curtis Wander, Pharm.D., director of content strategy, and Roger Haskins, director of creative services, were made partners at the agency.

Structure and services

The growth and success of Peregrine Market Access stem from its unique platform of service pillars that offer clients a full spectrum of interconnected consulting, communications, and commercialization services,” executives say.   These pillars are full-services market access communications; market insights; strategy and consulting; digital modeling; reimbursement solutions; value chain public relations; publication and media mapping; and contract account sales team.

As a full-service agency, Peregrine offers marketing and communications “that effectively tell a brand’s value narrative in an eloquent and visually elegant manner,” agency leaders maintain. Market insights provides data that help clients understand the “why” behind customer behavior and guide brand access strategy. Strategy and consulting “provide the proper up-front thinking to crystallize an access strategy with a thorough understanding of the market landscape, brand, and target customers.” Through digital modeling, Peregrine has customized healthcare economic modeling tools “that showcase value by aligning clinical benefit with relevant cost impact for more productive economic conversations.” Reimbursement solutions integrate  branding and access communications “to ensure a positive fulfillment experience.”

Value chain public relations delivers a brand’s value story to key value chain stakeholders “to engage, educate, mobilize advocacy, and influence formulary decision-makers.”  Publications and media mapping are publication services and resources “powered by published medical and health economics leaders, plus supplemental media mapping to ensure publications are highly visible to target audiences.” And the contract account and sales team are national account and sales team professionals who seamlessly integrate with client teams to secure the most profitable access for client brands.

Future plans

Peregrine Market Access is delivering innovative, omnichannel approaches to help clients and value chain stakeholders make more informed decisions about the value of treatments, diagnostics, and medical devices,” agency leaders state.

In 2024, Peregrine Market Access anticipates expansion of its digital modeling, market insights, value chain public relations, and contract account and sales team services.

Additionally, Peregrine will continue to offer no-cost healthcare for its employees and their families, “putting into practice its desire to expand access to health care.”

Philanthropy/citizenship

Each year, Peregrine Market Access provides philanthropic support to nonprofit organizations that align with its healthcare-related work or causes that are dear to the hearts of its employees.

The veteran-owned agency provides pro bono support to the Saratoga WarHorse Foundation, which provides equine therapy programs to former military service members living with post-traumatic stress disorder. This past year, Peregrine produced social media content, articles, press releases, and exhibition materials that raised awareness of Saratoga WarHorse’s efforts, drove support for its fundraising campaigns, and expanded its outreach throughout the community in celebration of the organization’s 10th anniversary.
