  • Agency on the Rise

The Value Builders, a Bloc agency, fully solidified its position in 2023, according to agency leaders. “After our official launch in 2020, we have nearly tripled in size, representing more than 40 employees and delivering our best financial year ever. As a key component of The Bloc’s Global Vision, The Value Builders embarked on an ambitious plan to continue servicing clients at the highest possible level, while adding to the full-service market access capabilities our clients need.”

“We share The Bloc’s mission, ‘Be great to do good,’ which pushes us to challenge convention and embrace innovation. The Value Builders believe good market access is never good enough. We’re here to be great for our clients as we strive to do good together. We start by leveraging our proprietary BE-
COMMS approach, a set of tools that allows us to find insights and drive messaging that will truly impact the payer audience.

“However, we go beyond the execution of BE-COMMS as we focus on our clients. As an organization we hold our teams to a very high standard. We understand that we represent very little of our client’s day-to-day work. We strive to make the portion of their day with us their best and most productive. We know the model works as our client relationships average over  four years and are still going strong.”

Recent accomplishments

To offer our clients a more full-service market access capability, The Value Builders have taken a deep dive, providing a new market access consultancy and have begun the process to build a global market access offering,” leaders say. In July 2023, the agency welcomed Carolyn Atchison, senior VP, Value Builder Consulting.

According to the leadership team, Atchison brings more than 20 years of experience from companies such as Amgen and Acadia Pharmaceuticals. “As a consultant, she offers deep experience supporting many small to midsize manufacturer clients in numerous therapeutic areas and stages of product development. Her key areas of interest include payer planning, value demonstration and communication, creating payer and access tools, identifying needed patient support services, establishing third-party logistics and specialty distribution networks, and the evolution of their services.” She has built a strong access consulting offering that includes early pipeline management and first product commercialization strategy; U.S. market access landscape assessments and strategic planning; U.S. payer analysis and archetyping, payer planning, and policy reviews; specialty distribution analysis and landscaping along with hub strategy and contracting; and global market access strategy assessments and global value dossier management.

“These new services allow The Value Builders to truly provide a holistic market access perspective, while maintaining our place as the most creative market access promotional agency in the industry,” leaders state.

The agency launched a new service offering in 2023, called The Value Builders Consultancy.
“The Value Builders will continue to work with an eclectic group of consultants to provide deeper expertise in market research, pricing contracting, value messaging, and practice management,” executives say.

Account wins include garadacimab for CSL Behring and Lutathera, Pluvicto, and remibrutinib for Novartis.

The Value Builders was a finalist for MM+M’s Market Access Agency of the Year Award for the second year in a row.

According to managers, “There is no agency anywhere that has a retention rate like The Value Builders. Seventy-five percent of staff tenure is greater than six years and our turnover rate sits at an industry low of less than 10 percent. We value our colleagues and have created a client service culture that puts staff and customers on an equal playing field.”

In 2023, the agency followed parent The Bloc’s lead and shifted from the flexible to the hybrid working model offering employees the best of both worlds: the convenience of the remote work and the energy that in-office encounters bring. “To further support our employees, we introduced a ‘Bloc from Anywhere’ policy as another layer of flexibility and we instituted our Value Builders University, ensuring that on days in the office, the entire team can learn and grow together,” executives say.

Structure and services

The Value Builders offers a full suite of market access and marketing services, including value proposition and economic messaging; branding, payer, and access and reimbursement strategy; patient support program development; onmnichannel strategy (NPP); global market access; customer experience planning; market access consulting; video production; and analytics.

Future plans

Our future plans are very specific as we continue to look to provide better ways to support our clients and our people,” agency leaders state. “We are building on our new consultancy to offer global market access support, while providing better support for our colleagues in Basel, Milan, and Germany in their local market access activities.

“We will combine our deep strategic and creative heritage with technological solutions that deliver compelling experiences across every conceivable platform. We are consistently working to drive growth and are currently pursuing a unified global strategy, with plans for deepening and broadening our global capabilities to service our clients. Above all, we will continuously strive to be the preferred partner for all of our clients.”

Philanthropy/citizenship

According to the leadership team, The Bloc matches 100 percent of any individual or Value Builder team charitable contribution. “The Value Builders in general provide support to many different philanthropic endeavors; however annually, our Creative Director Alex Gore is a leader in Movember activities raising money for men’s health initiatives. Over the last four years, Alex, with The Value Builders support, has raised over $10,000 for men’s health, and it is an annual right-of-passage to either watch Alex grow his mustache or grow one right alongside him.”
